Photos and maps only go so far. A festival, a parade or a tasting night gives you what a listing cannot: how a place feels when it is busy, where you would park, what the streets are like after dark. This is a neighborhood sampler, built around events with confirmed dates.
Coronado
An island town with a walkable downtown. A Taste of Coronado is on Wednesday, October 7, and the Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting is Friday, December 4, with the parade at 6 p.m.
Little Italy
A dense, walkable downtown neighborhood. Bella Vita Fest takes over the streets on Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, and the Tree Lighting and Christmas Village is Saturday, December 5, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Old Town
The state historic park hosts a free Día de los Muertos fiesta on Saturday, October 31 (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and Sunday, November 1 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
Balboa Park
The city’s cultural heart is the setting for the free December Nights on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5.
Chula Vista and EastLake
Downtown Chula Vista has its Día de los Muertos celebration on Monday, November 2 at 3 p.m. (listing) and the Starlight Parade on Third Avenue on Saturday, December 5 (parade site). In EastLake, the Village Walk holiday light show runs Friday to Sunday evenings from November 29 to December 20.
Carlsbad Village
The Taste of Carlsbad Village is Thursday, October 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. The huge Village Street Faire is Sunday, November 1, and the Rotary Holiday Tree Lighting is Sunday, December 6.
How to use an evening like a scout
- Arrive early and look at the streets the event does not use, not just the main stage.
- Take note of the lights, the sound level and how far you walk from parking.
- Talk to someone local. Ask what they would change and what they would never change.
Private and off-market homes
If you are interested in private or off-market opportunities, the most useful thing you can tell Rudy is which of these places felt right. That is the list he can watch for you.
Curious which neighborhood fits? Rudy would be glad to talk it through. The four-question Home Strategy Quiz takes about a minute, and he will follow up personally.
Dates and times were checked on the organizers’ and cities’ own pages on October 3, 2026. Events can change or sell out, so open the linked page before you head out. This site is not affiliated with any event listed here.
